Arenig Fawr lies close to the banks of Llyn Celyn between Trawsfynydd and Bala. This is an easy mountain to climb although there is no readily identifiable footpath. The route up is usually made by following an abandoned post and wire boundary fence. There is a reservoir half way up, Llyn Arenig Fawr, which provides water to Bala and the surrounding villages.
At the summit is a trig point and a memorial to the US air crew of a Flying Fortress bomber which crashed here in 1943.
