Llyn Cowlyd is the deepest lake in Snowdonia, and indeed, in North Wales. Some parts of the lake are as deep as 229 feet. This is a rather bleak lake because the hillsides are too steep to support forestation. A road runs to Llyn Cowlyd via Trefriw, although public access by road is prohibited about a mile away. There is a good footpath to the lake from Capel Curig, involving a walk of 2 miles or so.
