Because of Portmeirion's unique siting on the North Wales coast, sheltered from the wind in a place where frosts are rare and the climate very mild, it has been possible to grow many exotic species here. There are Holm Oak, Portugal and Cherry Laurels, Strawberry Trees, Rhododendron Ponicums, Yews, Bay, Monkey Puzzle Trees and Dancing Trees (Griselinia Littoralis).
