The Prisoner is a tv series filmed at Portmeirion in the 1960's. It has since attained cult status, due to its duel meanings. The series is about an ex-secret agent (Patrick McGoohan) held in a bizarre village where his former employers attempt to determine the reason for his resignation.
The Prisoner represents much more, however, being an absorbing allegory investigating the nature of government, media and the individual. All residents of the village are known by numbers. The Prisoner is number 6. Throughout the series he constantly tries to escape and multivarious forms of trickery are used against him to attempt to extract his secret.
