The Welsh Highland Railway is the latest of Snowdonia's tourist railways. It consists of a 12 mile journey from Caernarfon Castle, on the coast, to Rhyd Ddu, near the foot of Snowdon. Work has already begun to add an additional 28 miles to the railway line, extending it to Beddgelert, Aberglaslyn and Porthmadog. It will connect with the Ffestiniog Railway which will allow for travel by rail to Portmeirion, Tan-y-Bwlch and Blaenau.
